Real estate magnate Dr Sudhir Ruparelia says investigations are ongoing after a gatehouse of his upcoming Ssese Gateway Hotel project collapsed. It is a turnkey project that is being handled by a private contractor.
“There were no fatalities and the few injured workers are receiving adequate treatment at Entebbe Hospital,” Sudhir said.
Earlier reports on social media indicated that the hotel which is under construction had collapsed, but the tycoon refuted this story.
“There is no cause for alarm. We had not yet even started building the hotel. It was just the gatehouse,” he said.
Sudhir said work on the hotel will resume once investigations are complete and he is assured of the quality of work and safety of the private contractor’s workers.
Under his Meera Investments, Sudhir is the biggest property developer in the country with focus on quality and safety. The group has played a big part in changing Kampala’s skyline with one of the recent developments being the magnificent Kingdom Kampala building.
The Ruparelia Group is also one of the biggest hospitality players under their award-winning Speke Group of Hotels. The Ssese Hotel upon completion is expected to cost Shs36 billion.
