The Masindi District COVID-19 Taskforce committee is searching for two COVID-19 contacts who escaped from quarantine at Masindi main hospital.
The two escapees were among the seven people that are believed to have had a contact with a COVID-19 patient from Hoima who travelled from Afghanistan.
According to the Masindi District COVID-19 Taskforce Committee Chairperson Dr Rogers Musingizi, the two escaped due to lack of enough security at the facility.
Musinguzi said though it is going to be costly to hunt them down, the committee has all the necessary information to trace them.
Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Ministry of Health spokesperson said that according to section 11 of the COVID-19 2020 ACT, it is illegal to escape or aid someone to escape from quarantine or isolation. Once found guilty, it can land you a prison sentence of two months.
Ainebyoona said the Ministry has of date so far obtained 855 contacts to the confirmed cases.
“We are still trying to use this partial lockdown to get all those that came in contact with the confirmed cases so that we end the spread chain,” he said.
