Uganda has todayTuesday, March 24, 2020 received 100,000 masks, 20,089 test kits, 741 Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) and 1,111 face shields from the Jack Ma Foundation. Jack Ma is a Chinese business magnet who decided to donate equipment used in fighting Coronavirus to all the 54 African countries.
The equipment has this evening landed at Entebbe International Airport and were received by Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health Dr Diana Atwine.
“The support from Alibaba Group and Jack Ma towards Uganda’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic landed this afternoon at Entebbe International Airport. This consists of 100,000 masks, 20,089 test kits, 741 PPEs and 1,111 face shields. We greatly appreciate this,” Dr Atwine said.
So far, 43 African countries have reported 1,872 cases with 50 deaths. South Sudan, Burundi, Botswana, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Libya, Mali and Malawi are among those that have not yet reported a single case. South Africa’s latest data indicate their COVID-19 cases have hit 554.
Rwanda has the highest cases of COVID-19 in East Africa as they have reported 36 cases as of yesterday. Uganda reported eight new cases yesterday taking the total to nine cases.
