Last month, two People Power supporters Ritah Nabukenya and Daniel Kyeyune died under circumstances that have been blamed on security agencies in the country, specifically Police and the Local Defence Unit (LDU).
On Nabukenya’s death, Police said that she was knocked down by a boda boda but unfortunately, the CCTV cameras around the area were off due to a network problem and so did not record anything, something that the State Minister for Internal Affairs Kania Obiga refuted, saying that Police could have lied about the whole thing.
On Daniel Kyeyune’s death, Police said he was shot by an unknown person with a pistol and later said they got footage of the shooting to help them in their investigations on the matter.
Today, People Power held a press conference to brief their fans about the Coronavirus pandemic and tackle a few other issues. Of the issues tackled is the death of Daniel Kyeyune, who they have revealed was killed by an LDU officer, according to the footage they got that was recorded by an eye witness.
“Police told us that comrade Kyeyune was shot by an unknown person with a pistol but we want the world to know what truly happened. We got footage that shows how Daniel Kyeyune was shot dead by an LDU officer,” People Power Spokesperson Joel Kyeyune revealed.
Ssenyonyi said that they will continue to demand justice for Kyeyune and several others including Ritah Nabukenya and Yasin Kawuma who was shot dead in Arua.
“We are doing everything to make sure justice is served to these families. We will file more suits locally and internationally,” Ssenyonyi added.
