Today, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared Coronavirus as a Global Pandemic and advised governments all over the world to double their efforts in preventing its spreading and contain the infections.
Several prominent people have now tested positive for the deadly virus and have immediately gone into isolation as required by doctors, so they can start on treatment right away. Here are some of them:
Actor Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson
The Hollywood power couple tested positive for Coronavirus yesterday in Australia where they had gone to film a movie. This came after the couple felt coronavirus symptoms like slight fevers, tiredness, and some body aches. They are currently staying in Australia and are hospitalized as per protocol.
Juventus defender Daniele Rugani
Italy has recorded the highest number of coronavirus infections and deaths in Europe. Football matches were first played in empty stadiums but have since been suspended to a future date.
Juventus defender Daniele Rugani tested positive to the virus this morning and has gone on to follow medical instructions of isolation.
Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis
The Greek billionaire tested positive for the virus on Monday and the news of his health condition led to the postponement of the Arsenal match against Manchester City that was supposed to be played yesterday, Wednesday, because Arsenal had played his club Olympiakos in the Europa League game close to a fortnight ago.
Manolo Gabbiadini
The Italian footballer who had a short stint at Southampton in England tested positive for the coronavirus a few hours ago.
He immediately tweeted, “I also tested positive for Coronavirus. I want to thank everyone who wrote me, many messages have already arrived. I still want to tell you that I’m fine, so don’t worry. Follow all the rules, stay home and everything will work out.”
McLaren rally team member
Earlier today, one of the biggest Formula One rally teams McLaren announced that they had pulled out of the Formula One Season opener the Australian Grand Prix because one of their team members tested positive for the virus.
They released a statement that reads, “The team member was tested and self-isolated as soon as they started to show symptoms and will now be treated by local healthcare authorities,”
“The team has prepared for this eventuality and has ongoing support in place for its employee who will now enter a period of quarantine. The team is cooperating with the relevant local authorities to assist their investigations and analysis.”
Spanish Minister for Equality Irene Montero
In recent days, Spain has had the number of coronavirus infections increase every day. Their Minister for Equality Irene Montero tested positive for the virus causing panic in Spanish Cabinet Ministers.
Montero tweeted, “Yesterday I noticed symptoms. I have been tested for COVID-19 and I have tested positive. I will stay at home with my family and carry out my work by telematic means until the health authorities indicate it. I feel fine.”
Still in Spain, Real Madrid players and staff are in quarantine for at least two weeks, after one of their basketball players tested positive for the virus.
Utah Jazz basketball players Rudy Gobert and Dominic Mitchell
The duo tested positive for the virus in a space of just hours each. Utah Jazz released a statement saying that these are the only two out of 58 tests conducted on players and staff at the club that are positive.
Uganda has not recorded any coronavirus case so far, and the Ministry of Health continues to urge the general public to stay vigilant, avoid body contact and wash hands with soap regularly. We wish everyone a speedy recovery.
