Every Ugandan that went through the normal education system must have come across the topic of the history of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom in Social Studies (SST), with the Bachwezi mentioned as the founders of the vast Dynasty.
As years passed, the dynasty collapsed and the Bachwezi, who were believed to be demi-gods, diminished in numbers, and their name almost stops to be heard of in those primary school SST lessons.
In an effort to revive their significance in the country, a group from Bunyoro Kingdom that identifies itself as ‘Bachwezi dynasty of Bunyoro Region’ has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga today to discuss a few pressing issues.
They were led by the Head of the Dynasty George William Bintu-bizibu Amooti and Hoima District Woman MP Businge Mugenyi.
The purpose of the call was to seek Parliament and government support as whole to engage in modern agriculture and inclusion in the curriculum. The Bachwezi voiced their concern on the fact that the role they played in Uganda’s history to promote modern administration, introduce Ankole long-horned cattle, governance, and cotton growing among others is not given the attention it deserves.
Amooti Bintu-bizibu said that they have written a book about the dynasty, drafted a constitution and an anthem so that they can remain relevant.
