While appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Internal Affairs to present the security budget framework Paper for the 2020/21 financial year, State Minister for Internal Affairs, Obiga Kania was tasked to explain the restricted treatment of opposition leaders, specifically Bobi Wine by security forces.
Minister Obiga said Police is mandated to keep law and order and when it comes to VIPs like Bobi Wine, Police has to draw tougher restrictions to protect him.
“It is the duty of security units to know where Bobi Wine is for his own safety, they must do it. Bobi Wine is an asset in this country,” Obiga Kania said.
For the harsh treatment, Obiga said while some security personnels should be held accountable for their acts, he also blamed opposition leaders for not complying with the set guidelines while conducting their political engagements.
Kania revealed that the tireless efforts by all security forces, the installation of CCTVs cameras, electronic finger printing of guns among other strategies have seen the crime rate reduce from 667 to 579.2 per 1000 persons by the end of June 2019.
