Taking you back to the 2016 Presidential race that had incumbent Yoweri Museveni, Kizza Besigye, Amama Mbabazi, Abed Bwanika, Venansius Baryamureeba, Gen Benon Biraaro, Joseph Mabirizi and Faith Kyalyavying for the top office in the land.
As we all know, Museveni was declared winner by the Electoral Commission after gathering 61% of the vote compared to Besigye’s 35%.
Most candidates in the race were not satisfied by the results released by the EC, and former Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba is one of them.
Looks like it has taken him years to find the right words to say about the results as he has this morning revealed why he got 0.54% of the vote that happened way back in 2016. Baryamureeba believes he would have gathered more than that if he had people to guard his votes.
“I got 1% because I did not have people to guard my votes at the polling stations. A party that wants to win elections should have people to guard its vote on every polling station,” said Baryamureeba during an appearance on a local television this morning.
Baryamureeba claimed that Museveni values every vote that is why he deploys agents at every polling station in the country unlike the opposition that deploys in only urban areas.
Ahead of the 2021 general elections, Baryamureeba who said he is not giving the Presidential race a second attempt believes it is going to be an easy win for Museveni.
“When I look at 2021, apart from President Museveni, every candidate is weak. If Besigye does not contest in 2021, Museveni will garner more than 70% and Bobi Wine about 5%,” he said.
