MP Nambooze predicts Gov’t will announce another lockdown after 2021 elections not because of COVID-19 but to stop Ugandans from demonstrating against vote rigging

Mukono Municipality legislator Betty Nambooze has said that all unfolding incidents ahead of 2021 January polls are clear indicators that it’s not going to be a free and fair contest.

Nambooze believes that all rules and suspensions announced by the Electoral Commission are only intended to suppress the opposition and favour the regime. She admits that COVID-19 is real but the regime has exclusively used it as a tool to frustrate the opposition in their bid to maintain power.

“After 14th January 2021, we are going into another lockdown to avoid us from demonstrating against vote rigging not because of COVID19,” Nambooze said.

She faulted EC Boss Justice Byabakama for over stretching his mandates by announcing unlawful suspensions.

“Byabakama is like a referee who has come to conduct a game in a village then stretches his responsibility to setting rules and regulations for the village,” Nambooze said.

“Don’t be surprised if there is a special voting process in these suspended areas. These areas are a stronghold of NUP and People Power,” she added.
