When I hear of opposition, I laugh; There is no opposition in Uganda—Museveni

Despite facing a record number of 10 presidential candidates in the 2021 elections, incumbent President Yoweri Museveni has bragged how he does not feel the existence of ‘opposition’ in Uganda as the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has ‘over’ achieved in its mission of transforming Uganda.

Speaking to NRM leaders and flag bearers in Mpigi district yesterday, Museveni said hearing that there is opposition in Uganda sounds a joke.

“When I hear of opposition, I laugh. There is no opposition but NRM people are being dumb. They don’t speak about our achievements. All the things we have done are here and no one can dispute them but why (NRM leaders) don’t you go down to the people and tell them what we have done,” Museveni said.

Nevertheless Museveni blamed NRM leaders for failing to connect with young people hence the reason they’re being misguided.

“You have not gone down to these people (youths) and it is the reason they are being used. They have their issues of being ignored by our leaders and have therefore been infiltrated by other forces,” he said.

Museveni is today scheduled to campaign in Masaka district. He will address NRM leaders and party flag bearers from districts of Masaka, Sembabule, Kalangala,  Kalungu, Bukomansimbi and  Lwengo.
