FDC presidential candidate Amuriat says the only free day he can physically meet the EC is Christmas day

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat has revealed that he will again not be able to make it to the Electoral Commission headquarters for a meeting as he’s busy with his campaigns.

Amuriat says he’s left with limited time of campaigning and so he cannot afford to abandon them and attend to a meeting with EC’s chairman Justice Simon Byabakama. He says that the only day he has to meet the Electoral Commission physically is Christmas day.

Last week EC issued summons to Amuriat and National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi over continued breaching of campaign guidelines intended to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Yesterday the duo had to appear before Byabakama for a meeting but they both instead sent representatives. The EC insisted that the duo must respond in person to summons issued to them to appear before the commission.

Bobi Wine and his team have today successfully met with the EC in a closed door meeting. On the other hand, Amuriat is slated to appear tomorrow on Wednesday at 11am but he has again disclosed that he will not make it.

However, yesterday after the meeting flopped, FDC lawyer Julius Galisonga said; “Our candidate could not come today because he was in Karamoja Sub-region but since the EC maintained that Amuriat comes in person, we have agreed that he shows up tomorrow.”
