“Colonialists treated Karamoja as human zoo and unfortunately the current government doesn’t care either,” Tumukunde promises to build Industrial Park in Karamoja region

Presidential candidate retired general Henry Tumukunde has promised to build factories and schools in Karamoja as a measure to eliminate Karamojong women and children from the different city streets in case elected president of Uganda come 2021.

Tumukunde says that, the state in which the Karamajongs live has been the same right from colonial times but very disappointing that all governments have deliberately chosen to ignore Karamoja and remain as they are up to date.

Tumukunde believes that hides and skins factories coupled with a milk processing plants and schools to support skills development will not leave Karamoja the same.

“This is a cattle economy and they lack important things like water, milk industry, hide and skins industry and meat packing industry that of the view I believe can promote this area which is otherwise largely un area’s quite affected by under development since colonial days,” said Tumukunde.

He added, “Colonialists treated Karamoja as human zoo and unfortunately the current government doesn’t care either to do something to change their situation especially for the last 35 years.

So what am I saying, Karamoja is a special area needs a special projects and needs to bring them up to other areas.”
