Police deny selective enforcement of COVID-19 guidelines, charge Minister Kasolo, NRM MP Mugema for flouting SOPs

Police has charged NRM candidates including State Minister for Microfinance, Haruna Kasolo, Iganga Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Mugema Panado and John Paul Mpalanyi for flouting the Ministry of Health guidelines on COVID-19.

While addressing journalists today at Uganda Media Centre, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the trio are reported to have gathered crowds in their respective areas without observing any Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Last week Kasolo was on the spot for holding a rally at Kalisizo playground- attracting a mammoth crowd. Kasolo is seeking re-election as Kyotera County legislator in Kyotera District.

The rally was graced by popular artists like Ronald Mayinja and Haruna Mubiru.

Enanga denied claims that police are selectively enforcing COVID-19 guidelines saying; “We are not partisan when applying these guidelines.”

To date, Uganda has 22,499 confirmed cases of COVID-19 after 311 new cases were confirmed yesterday. Total recoveries stand at 9175 while deaths are 206.
