As election campaigns for parliamentary and presidential candidates kicks off today, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba has called upon security agencies to uniformly enforce COVID-19 guidelines without discrimination.

Lumumba said every person is vulnerable to contracting COVID-19 no matter his or her political affiliation. She said it is bad for police officers to fail to enforce the Ministry of Health COVID-19 guidelines in fear of unpleasing members of the ruling party.

“NRM members are not above the law, COVID-19 affects everybody whether from the ruling party or not. You may assume you are favouring the latter because it’s the party in power but that’s disfavouring us,” Lumumba said.

Nine presidential candidates have harmonised their schedules with the Electoral Commission for the campaigns which start this Monday. NRM will today start their presidential campaigns in Luweero.
