I am not NRM, I was only paid to record an advert—Ronald Mayinja

Singer Ronald Mayinja has been under fire for singing a praise campaign song for incumbent President Yoweri Museveni. In a song dubbed ‘Akalulu kako Mzeei,’ Mayinja explains why Museveni is the only candidate that deserves to be elected into the country’s top office.

Since dropping the song on Thursday this week, Mayinja has been condemned for hypocritically trading his values for ‘evil’ money.

Speaking during an interview on a local TV yesterday, Mayinja defended his decision to record a song for Museveni as he said that being a singer that he is, he could not turn down a paid offer of recording an advert for a political candidate.

“I am not NRM, I was only paid to record for them an advert,” Mayinja said.

Mayinja said that for a long time he has composed revolutionary songs, he has never got a single coin out of his compositions.

The singer said Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) Party supporters are very intolerant   that cannot understand the dynamics of the cause they’re pushing for.

He said if they go on abusing him, he will officially subscribe to the ruling NRM party.
