“I am hungry for the title,” Joshua Cheptegei to make debut at World Half Marathon

World record breaker Joshua Chepetegei will today be eyeing for more history on his name as he makes his debut today on Saturday at the World Half Marathon Championships in Gdynia, Poland.

The strongman has never competed further than 16km, but with his fabulous form he’s tipped to once again fly Uganda’s flag high.

“I am a person of high talent and I can say it will be a nice challenge,” said Joshua Cheptegei during the event press conference yesterday.

He added, “It’s a new challenge for me but I am also hungry for the title. (If I win) it will be special for me.”

Chepetegei had a record-breaking start to the season, setting a new mark of 12:51 in a 5km road race in Monaco in February. Then in a span of about three months, the 24-year-old bettered the 5000m world record in Monaco in August, and went on to smash the long-standing 10,000m mark in Valencia on October 7 .
