Police to arrest football supporters who intend to watch Premier League from public places

Some seven weeks since the 2019-20 season finished, a new Premier League campaign gets under way tomorrow on Saturday.

And with public gathering, bars, cinema halls still under lockdown, Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson has warned that police will be arresting football supporters who they find watching games in public places.

“As Premier league season starts, we want to warn members of the public more so managers & owners of cinema halls, bibanda, bars, betting shops & places of entertainment NOT to open. The directive still stands. Police will carry out foot & motorized patrols targeting such places,” says Onyango.

He says the culprits will have to face charges of violating Presidential and Ministry of Health guidelines such as social distancing and curfew all intended to curtail the spread of the coronavirus.
