Kawempe Police closed after suspect tests positive for COVID-19, staff put under quarantine

The spike in the spread of the deadly Coronavirus is continuing to bite across the country as more cases are being registered. Kawempe Police Station has been forced to pause its operations after a male juvenile suspect tested positive for COVID-19.

The 15-year juvenile was detained at the station on allegations of defiling of a three-year old girl. Investigations were conducted and concluded and the suspect was produced at Nabweru court and remanded to juvenile remand home at Naguru.

“He was taken there, but the officials at the remand home demanded for COVID-19 negative certificate before he could be admitted. Police took him for tests and the results came back he is positive,” says police in a statement.

The child is yet to be transferred to Entebbe Grade B Hospital for treatment. The ministry of health were contacted and they took samples of police staff, family members and all suspects in custody.

“We are waiting for results,” says police.

The station and barracks will today be disinfected. Police says they are currently not registering any new crime cases but only attending to emergencies.
