FDC Mobilizer Ingrid Turinawe to contest as an independent after failing in party primaries

Uganda’s strongest opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) is continuing to cruise on the knees as more internal fights erupt.

Earlier this week, FDC held its party primaries for Members of Parliament and as always various regions witnessed stiff candidature races and among them was Rukungiri Municipality.

Youthful Dr. Warren Tumwine Nuwagaba beat incumbent Hon. Roland Mugume Kaginda and Ingrid Turinawe, the FDC National Political Mobilizer. Nuwagaba garnered 130 votes against Turinawe’s 65 votes.

Ingrid seems not contented with the results as she has vowed to contest as an independent candidate in the general elections.

Turinawe protests the results citing voter bribery as she reveals that Nuwagaba bribed voters with a cash token between Shs400,000-Shs500,000.

Similarly, Winnie Joseline Babihuga, who lost to the incumbent Betty Muzaniira for the Rukungiri Woman MP seat also announced she will contest on the independent ticket.

Nathan Nandala Mafabi, FDC Secretary-General says that any FDC member who will contest as an independent candidate or support independent candidates will face disciplinary action.
