National Water expands to Kapeeka Business Park, to serve over 100 villages

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation is expanding the Kapeeka Water Supply System to serve over 100 villages in three districts.

Inspecting the projects works at Kapeeka in Nakaseke district,NWSC MD Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha cautioned the contractor against cost over runs. He asked them to deliver the project on time and work with the communities who are the initial beneficiaries.

Dr. Silver added that the project will be completed by April 2021 and will produce over increase water supply from 2.5 million to 7million litres of water per day, boost industrialization at Kapeeka business park, improve sanitation and health in the 3 districts.

He urged residents to jealously protect River Mayanja which is the heart of the project.

The project scope includes bulk water transfer to Semuto Sub County 

Bulk water transfer to Bukomero town, bulk water transfer to Kapeeka Industrial park, Improve current water production from 2.5million litres/day to 7million litres/day, Upgrade of electro-mechanical equipment, Upgrading of raw water intake, construction of two additional water treatment lines including; an aerator, flocculator, calculator, clarifier, filter and ancillary works,Construction of a new pump house, Construction of a 150m3 steel backwash water tank, Laying of a parallel steel treated water pumping main, Construction of a new 600m3 steel reservoirs,Installation of raw water and treated water pumps and Construction of staff houses 

Richard Ogwal the manager NWSC Kapeeka area said that the project when completed will serve Singo Army barracks, 60 villages in Kapeeka town, Kapeeka Industrial park, 20 villages in Kikandwa-Mityana district, Masiliba, Kakyenga, Nakatoke, Kituma, 30 villages in Bukomero-Kiboga district among other areas.

NWSC is working to complete the project by February 2020. 

Kapeeka water works is funded using internally generated NWSC resources with support from the Government of Uganda.

*Kampala City to Get 400million litres of water*

Whilst NWSC produces 240million litres of water per day from Ggaba water works per day,  the demand has shot up to more than 300million litres of water per day as a result of the mushrooming population and developments in the city.

“We are working on massive infrastructure to add over 160million litres of water per day to Kampala. The combined production from Ggaba (240million litres /day) and Katosi (240million litres design capacity and 160 production for phase 1) will produce a today of 400million litres of water per day and bridge the water supply gaps in the city by February 2020.” he said

Dr. Silver said that Katosi project will solve water supply challenges in Kungu,  Najjera, Kulambiro, parts of Ntinda, Ssonde, Gayaza, Kanyanya, Kyaliwajjala, Kira, Kitikifumba, Matugga, Kawanda, Mukono, Wakiso and other areas experiencing water supply challenges in the Kampala Metropolitan service area.

He added that NWSC in partnership with the Danish business is working on a new water works at Kaazi along Entebbe road. The water works when completed will boost water supply along Entebbe road, Mpigi, Wakiso and the surrounding areas 

Manager Infrastructure projects supervision Eng Herbert Mujuni said that Katosi water supply project is 75% complete with all civil works done. 

“The contractor is installing electoral mechanical equipment and system tests will start in December to March 2021” he assured city dwellers
