19 COVID-19 cases in Kampala as Health Ministry confirms 43 new cases

Ministry of Health has confirmed 43 new COVID-19 cases taking the cumulative total number of confirmed cases in Uganda 1,603.

Among the new cases; 32 are alerts (16 from Kampala, seven from Namisindwa, five from Arua, four from Omoro, Gulu, Kasese and Buikwe), five (5) are truck drivers, five (5) are contacts to previously confirmed cases and 1 is a returnee from Kenya.

The Director of health services, Dr Henry Mwebesa says that the increase in number of cases within Kampala is due to the failure of people to follow the standard operating procedures.

Dr Mwebesa added notes that most of the fatal cases report to the health centers very late. The total recoveries in Uganda now stand at 1165 while the deaths are 15.

President Yoweri Museveni is set to address the country again about the COVID-19 fight. Sources reveal that he will issue new directives especially to sectors that have continued to flout the Standard Operating Procedures.
