Patrick Amuriat says FDC will not have elections for party flag bearer in the presidential race if Besigye offers himself to stand

A lot of speculations have been making rounds concerning who the strongest opposition party Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) with front for President in the forthcoming elections.

FDC President Patrick Amuriat has revealed that the question regarding the FDC flag bearer in the presidential race will be answered in September. Amuriat said the party has weathered the storm and now walking upright.

Amuriat however, said that though they’re currently talking to everyone who seems fit to carry their ticket in the race, if four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye offers himself for the position, the decision will be obvious.

“We shall hold nominations and elections for the presidential flag bearer for FDC. If Dr Kizza Besigye offers himself as a candidate then there will be no election, that’s the position of the party’s top executive,” Amuriat said.

Amuriat also revealed that the party has embarked on reconciling aggrieved members ahead of the 2021 elections. He said that the National Reunion Agenda is aimed at mending fences and letting grudges go among members.

Amuriat, however, tasked party leaders at all levels to get ready for a door-to-door campaign.
