Boda bodas now free to ride to any part of the Kampala as Police suspends operations

Police has suspended operations against bodaboda riders who were accessing the city centre. Over the weekend, government issued a set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all the Boda Bodas operators.

Among them were demarcated Boda Boda Free Zones where all Boda Bodas are prohibited from entering/accessing those areas. The Boda Boda Free Zone boundaries stretched from; Wampewo Roundabout- Jinja Road to Kitgum House junction – Access Road – Mukwano Road to Clock Tower –Kafumbe Mukasa Road –Kisenyi Road –Mackay Road- Kyaggwe Road- Watoto Church-Bombo Road – Wandegeya – Hajji Musa Kasule  Road- Mulago roundabout- Kamwokya junction – Sturrock Road – Prince Charles Drive- Lugogo Bypass–Jinja Road- Wampewo Roundabout.

Today morning police carried out an operation where it impounded hundreds of boda bodas that were trying to access the city center. However, Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire has revealed that the operation has been suspended and pushed to end next month.

He said this has been done to give riders time to register with their respective stages around Kampala. For now riders are free to ride to any part of Kampala as long as they follow the anti-COVID-19 guidelines. The impounded boda bodas were returned to the riders.
