Minister Aceng refuses to apologise over ‘rally’, “I didn’t do anything wrong”

Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has refused to bow to pressure as the public asked for her apology after pictures emerged showing her meeting a group of people in Lira while she was not wearing a face mask.

While speaking to journalists after appearing before the Parliamentary Committee on Health, Aceng said though she regrets the incident, she did nothing wrong hence she will not issue any apology.

“Did I do anything wrong?” Aceng replied when asked to apologize for flouting the ministry of health guidelines and Presidential directives.

Aceng claimed that the criticism against her is political, revealing that; “When I declared my political intentions, I expected such incidents of criticism to happen.”

The minister is also yet to appear before parliament to fully explain the allegations as directed by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

Aceng yesterday told the Parliamentary Committee on Health that the ministry was yet to receive any monies for the free masks from the ministry of finance. However, she revealed that they have so far distributed approximately 6 Million masks to communities in the border districts of Adjumani, Amuru, Kyotera and Rakai. She added that she is confident that the Government will be able to distribute mask to all Ugandans.
