Following a meeting between Kampala landlords, traders and Betty Amongi the Minister for Kampala Affairs this morning, 47 arcades have been allowed to re-open. The 47 arcades met the guidelines set for Standard Operating Procedures to avert the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, over 200 arcades are yet to be inspected.

This follows a meeting held at the Conference Hall of the President’s Office between The Minister of Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs, Mrs Betty Amongi with Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA), Kampala Arcaders Advocacy Forum (KAAFO) and Kampala Arcaders Traders Association (KATA).

Yesterday, traders under KACITA vowed to forcefully re-open the arcades and there has been heavy Police deployment downtown to avert a traders’ strike.
