St Augustine Chapel hands over CCTV footage in connection to death of MAK student Tegu to police

Authorities of St Augustine Chapel at Makerere University have handed over a copy of CCTV footage in connection to the assault and later death of MAK student Emmanuel Tegu.

However, media was blocked from accessing and witnessing the handover. Police says it will brief the media after their experts handling the investigations analyse the obtained footage.

Ugandans on social media have continued to condemn security officers’ brutality against unarmed civilians with the LDUs being put in the spotlight as the public  demands for justice following the death of Tegu.

The public claims that Tegu succumbed to death following severe beatings from LDUs who were enforcing curfew directives at the institution.

Speaking to the media on Monday this week, police spokesperson Fred Enanga said their preliminary findings indicate that security officers had no hand in the death of Tegu. He said that Tegu was beaten by a mob as he tried to attack Centenary Bank security guards.

“One of the guards raised an alarm which brought residents from Lumumba Hall who immediately descended on him,” Enanga said.

Yesterday, Police disclosed that two of the seven suspects arrested in the connection to Tegu’s death admitted to killing the victim.
