There has been a protest in Bududa district where boda boda riders are accusing Police and other security officers of torture, something they say they are fed up of.

The boda boda riders accuse Police officers of allegedly severely beating up their colleague, a one Mubakali Kuloba for defying Presidential directives of not carrying passengers. Kuloba was carrying two passengers.

According to Daily Monitor, Kuloba was involved in a scuffle with Police officers as they tried to arrest him but he lost control over his motorcycle and rammed into a tree that severely injured him.

Now, the boda boda riders want to meet security authorities in Bududa district to find a lasting solution to the problems they have in between them which include alleged torture and extortion.

“We want a meeting between the cyclists and security operatives in the district because we have failed to cooperate with Police officers. I cannot watch the people he leads being tortured for no reason,” said Juma Kuuya, the chairperson Bududa Boda-Boda Association.

President Museveni in his last COVID-19 address to the country directed boda bodas to continue transporting only luggage and cargo until there is a permanent solution to the COVID-19 pandemic.
