Kiira Motors unveils locally made ventilator called ‘Bulamu’, can work with solar power

Innovation at Kiira Motors Corporation keeps growing. From manufacturing electric and solar buses, the company has now ventured into making medical equipment.  

This morning, in the presence of Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, Kiira Motors has unveiled their locally made ventilator called Bulamu, which means life. The Bulamu Ventilator comes with a backup system in case of power failure and can be connected to solar in case of facilities that are off the national power grid.

The ventilator was designed, developed and manufactured by Kiira Motors in collaboration with Makerere University and the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

At the unveiling ceremony, Dr Aceng said, “It is such a great joy to unveil the Bulamu ventilator on the morning of the budget speech. We are proud of the vehicles, innovations you are making. I am looking forward to Bulamu Ventilators out there in the health facilities not just for COVID-19 patients but also others who need them.”

As the number of COVID-19 cases keep rising in the country, ventilators might be needed if the situation gets worse, something that should be avoided, and Dr Aceng has advised the public don’t to become complacent.

“I appreciate all of you for keeping safe. Don’t become complacent. I feel sad when I see what is going on downtown. Remind each other that Covid-19 is still with us.” She said.
