The clock is ticking to the awaited Presidential address on the country’s way forward in the fight against COVID-19. Before President Museveni addresses the nation at 8pm, our sources have already tipped this website on the much-anticipated issue of lockdown.

Sources reveal that Cabinet which has sat this morning has voted to extend the lockdown for 14 days.

Though the experts on national COVID-19 response team who met with Museveni on Saturday proposed for a 21-day extension, Cabinet saw it as a risky decision since for a series of reasons Ugandans are fed up of the strict restrictions and demand for relaxation of some of them.

Experts demanded for a longer extension with an aim of giving health professionals enough time to conduct rapid assessments across the country.

They however warned that prolonged extension might severely affect the economy and also lead to starvation amongst thousands of Ugandans.

As of today, Uganda has 89 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 55 recoveries and no death registered.
