23-year-old Racheal Nafula, a mother of three set fire on herself following concurrent cheating accusations from her husband Paul Balikuba. The couple is a resident of Wakisi central in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe district.

Nafula who is nursing wounds at Wakisi health center said she was irritated by the husband always spying on her and accusing her of sleeping around with different men. She said such accusations have resulted into fights between them.

“Every time, that man accuses me of sleeping around with men which I do not do. I was tired of his acts that is why I decided to burn myself because am wrongly accused,” Nafula said.

Nafula explained that she tied herself with a mattress and lit the fire on it after she had taken her children to their grandmother.

“I later felt so much pain which forced me to call my neighbours who brought me here at the hospital,” she added.

Balikuba who was attending a burial was shocked to receive information about the wife burning herself. He revealed that before the incident, the wife had threatened to divorce him.

“We enjoyed lunch together but later my wife told me she is divorcing me. I was forced to carry our youngest child and go to a funeral but I later got information that she had burnt herself. I do not know why she did that,” Balikuba said.

Nafula has been charged with attempted suicide at Wakisi Police Station and investigations in the matter have commenced.
