The Ministry of Health has confirmed that the two suspected COVID-19 patients that died at St. Mary’s Lacor Hospital did not succumb to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

“Both patients who were admitted at St. Mary’s Lacor Hospital and suspected to have died from COVID-19 have tested NEGATIVE for COVID-19. As of today, Uganda has not registered any COVID-19 related death,” Health Ministry said.

On Sunday, two unidentified patients suspected to have COVID-19 were admitted at Lacor Hospital. In the evening of the same day, the duo died at the hospital’s Isolation Unit which caused panic. The Health Ministry called for calm and promised to communicate the results of the samples they had taken.

As of today, confirmed COVID-19 cases stand at 81 in Uganda after two new COVID-19 cases were confirmed yesterday. A total of 2,002 samples were tested out of 299 samples tested among the community and individuals under quarantine. All the 1,703 samples from truck drivers at the border points of entry tested negative for COVID-19.

The two cases were both males; a Ugandan national and a Burundian refugee. They are under quarantine at Rakai Hospital as they are contacts to an earlier confirmed Burundian refugee case.
