Panic as two suspected COVID-19 patients die at Lacor Hospital, samples taken for tests

St Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu has called for calm after two unidentified admitted COVID-19 suspects died on Sunday evening at the hospital’s Isolation Unit. In a statement, Lacor Hospital has refuted claims that the two patients succumbed to COVID-19.

The hospital said that they received three patients with signs similar to COVID-19 although they had other underlying diseases. It added that they took samples from the patients and is now waiting for results.

“They were brought in critical condition but unfortunately two passed on, they had symptom related to that of COVID19, though we have to wait for results,” the hospital said in a statement.

Ministry of Health has also issued a statement revealing that there were no COVID-19 patients who were admitted at Lacor Hospital in Gulu.

“The Ministry of Health has noted a statement issued by Lacor Hospital on the death of two COVID-19 suspected patients. Samples have been taken to Uganda Virus Institute in Entebe for testing and we shall communicate results shortly. We appeal to the population to remain calm and practice preventive measures,” said the Health Ministry.

Uganda has 79 cases of COVID-19, 47 recoveries and no deaths.
