Tanzanian President Magufuli declares three days of National Prayer after the country recorded 53 new Coronavirus cases in one day

Tanzanian President, H.E John Magufuli Pombe.

President of Tanzania John Magufuli has declared three days nationwide prayers that started yesterday on Friday. This is after the country recorded 53 new coronavirus infections on Friday.

Magufuli asked every faithful to pray for the country to overcome COVID-19 pandemic that has infected more than two million people globally.

Tanzania has not imposed any restrictions on movement or closed its borders but it suspended social gatherings and ordered education institutions to shut down. But places of worship remain open. Tanzania has 147 total number of COVID-19 cases with 11 recoveries and five deaths.

The appeal for prayers comes as Tanzania cancelled this year’s April 26 national holiday commemorating the 1964 merger of Tanganyika and Zanzibar to become Tanzania.

Their Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa revealed that Magufuli ordered the Finance Ministry to redirect the $217,000 that was set aside for the holiday celebrations to go toward fighting the coronavirus in the country.
