The closure of Uganda’s nightlife surely left thousands of people that were employed in bars, nightclubs, beaches and other social events jobless, so most of them are finding ways of making themselves busy and at the same time useful.
One group of people that is out of work is the bouncers, and they have revealed that they are ready to work with security agencies, voluntarily, to enhance government efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.
According to Tonny Ssempijja, the administrator of the Umbrella for Uganda Bouncers association (UUBA), they have assembled over 500 bouncers to help government in distributing food to the select groups of people.
“We have mobilized our members and sensitized them about the coronavirus pandemic, they have accepted to offer voluntary services if called upon, under the supervision of government agencies,” Ssempijja explained.
Many of the bouncers had been working at night clubs, bars, hotels, and beaches but they had been made jobless and redundant ever since the facilities were closed.
The government was supposed to distribute food to over 1.5 million people in Kampala and Wakiso starting today, Saturday, April 4, 2020, but the move was halted by Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga when it was brought to her knowledge that government had no money to supply food relief to other regions in the country.
