Herbalist arrested for selling herb that ‘cures’ COVID-19

The red herb Kungu was selling.

Police in Soroti have arrested a one Kungu Lazarus, 24, a self-proclaimed mobile Herbalist for duping the public that he had discovered a local herb for curing Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Kungu was found at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital extorting money from patients by presenting them with a red liquid that he claimed cures COVID-19.

World over, there is a global hunt for a coronavirus drug and for now there is no specifically approved medicine to prevent or treat the COVID-19 disease.

According to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), treatments essentially treat the symptoms, which often in the case of COVID-19 involve fever, cough and shortness of breath. In mild cases, this might simply mean rest and fever-reducing medications.

Yesterday, the total number of coronavirus infections in the world reached one million. In Uganda, one case was confirmed yesterday taking the total to 45 cases.

The general public is encouraged to stay alert and vigilant, and not fall victim to all the conmen claiming that they have the cure to the virus.
