President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Following an increase in the number of Coronavirus cases in the country now standing at 14, President Museveni has issued a directive to suspend all public transport in the country.

Buses, taxis, boda bodas, tuku tukus, trains and any other kind of public transport means have been suspended for 14 days. However, the president has said that trucks carrying cargo, and boda bodas can only transport food and other essentials because “bananas don’t breathe,” and they are only targeting human beings.

President Museveni has also said that passengers can only use private means of transport, and these should not carry more than three people, including the driver. Police, Army, and government vehicles, as well as ambulances, will continue to move, including waste collection vehicles.

Museveni has urged the general public to postpone unsafe journeys from one point to anothers, includings journeys for Easter.

Public transport aside, President Museveni has also said that trading in the markets should only be for food, banning the sale of things like clothes, necklaces, phones, sandles, and shoes.
