All those that travelled from Dubai in the past two weeks please come for checkup – Health Minister Aceng cries out

Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng.

After confirming eight more new coronavirus cases and all travelled from Dubai over the weekend, Minister for Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has called upon all individuals that travelled from Dubai in the past two weeks to report to the Health Ministry in Wandegeya for a checkup.

Speaking during an emergency press conference at midnight, Aceng said that for the past weeks, the health officials have been allowing people who are not travelling from category one countries to self-quarantine and United Arab Emirates (UAE) was one of those countries.

“According to the cases we are getting, all are from Dubai, a place which was not in category one according to the World Health Organisation. Now it is time we subject all these people to medical tests,” Aceng said.

The Minister confirmed that they have all the travel details of the people that came from Dubai within the said period aboard either Ethiopian Airways or Emirates Airways.

To date, a total of 2,661 travellers including Ugandans identified as potential risk have been either under self-quarantine or institutional quarantine. Of these, 1,356 are under follow up; 774 of these are under institutional quarantine while 582 are under self-quarantine.

“We continue to appeal to the general public to remain calm and practice preventive measures. Wash your hands and maintain a social distance of four metres. We encourage the general public to always verify information from the Ministry to avoid spreading false rumours which may cause unnecessary anxiety,” Aceng said.
