Nakaseke South lawmaker Hon Lutamaguzi Ssemakula has declared himself the first ‘patriotic’ Member of Parliament to allow his salary be deducted  with a noble cause of fighting Coronavirus. He offered Shs2 million from his monthly Parliament salary.

“I want Parliament to be deducting Shs2m from my salary until Uganda manages to kick out Coronavirus,” Lutamaguzi said.

The legislator asked all the other 425 MPs to also allow the same amount be deducted from their salary as contribution to fund the Coronavirus budget.

“We should not politicise this situation because it is affecting us all as a country. As we demand government to take charge of the situation, as responsible citizens we should also play a part,” he said.

Uganda has only one confirmed case of Covid-19 disease and today Parliament is set to pass a loan of Shs700 billion that will be used to fund the Coronavirus budget.

Earlier today, Minister for Health, Dr Ruth Aceng said COVID19 is a battle, which can only be won if the nation joins hands together.

“We should all be responsible and helpful to one another and collectively guard our country jealously. This is already happening. The private sector has been quietly supporting the fight enormously,” Aceng said.
