Breaking: Uganda confirms first coronavirus case, a 36-year-old Ugandan male who flew in from Dubai

The Ministry of Health has confirmed the first coronavirus case in the country. The confirmed case is a 36-year-old Ugandan male who arrived from Dubai at 2:00 am yesterday March 21, 2020 aboard Ethiopian airlines.

According to the Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the case presented with symptoms of high fever and poor appetite during screening at the airport, posting 38 degrees. Samples were taken to Uganda Virus Research Institute where the patient was tested positive for the coronavirus. He was immeditely evacuated to Entebbe Grade B hospital.

The case had travelled to Dubai on March 17, 2020 for business purposes and he was in good health at the time of his travel, the minister said.

“The passenger manifest has been retrieved and all contacts are known as we are in posession of the passports of all the travellers that came on that plane,” Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has said.

This comes at a time when the President has banned all incoming air traffic with immediate effect.
