Food, exercise and what to do to boost your immune system to beat Coronavirus

Although reports of the deaths arising from the Coronavirus pandemic have dominated global media, it should be noted that more people have recovered from the deadly virus than have succumbed to it.

This shows that testing positive for Coronavirus is not a death sentence, as medical persons say that with a strong body immune system, victims can beat Coronavirus and go on to live as healthily as ever.

At Matooke Republic, we care about everyone’s life and that is why we have brought you the types of food you can eat and activities you can do to boost your immunity that will fend off the virus like nobody’s business.

A balanced diet

Your body immunity depends highly on what you eat. A diet with plenty of Vitamin C should boost your immunity just well enough to help you manoeuvre through these dangerous Coronavirus times.

Fruits rich in citric acid like oranges, limes, lemons, tangerines and grapefruits are great immunity boosters. Vegetables like broccoli and spinach, as well as paw-paws (papaya) are also rich in Vitamin C. Foods rich in vitamins B, E and D (the sun is free) should also be added to the diet.

Exercise

Guys, sitting up from your bed in the morning is not exercise. You need a routine where you work your body muscles, break a sweat and race your heart. It helps with blood flow, makes your heart work better and boosts your overall immune system.

Also, being fit makes you feel good about yourself and although we are not saying feeling good will kick away Coronavirus, but it boosts your immunity to sicknesses. So, let’s get running, coronavirus is chasing us.

Sleep

Sleep is magical. Apart from bringing us dreams, sleep also helps the body recover and defend itself. While you are asleep, your body uses that time to do serious recovery and repair of essential functions, including your immune system.

It has been widely recommended that you need between six to eight hours of sleep every night in order to maintain a healthy body. So if you are quarantined, instead of laughing at internet memes, use that time to have as much sleep as possible.

Reduce your alcohol intake

Apart from walking around like a mad person and speaking uncoordinated things, over-drinking dangers your immune system which is something we are trying to avoid here. If you have been, for a lack of a better word, a drunkard, reduce your intake of that liquid during this Coronavirus period and have your immunity boosted.

There are better things to drink, like water, milk, and a glass of juice made from citrus fruits. Smokers, smoking messes up your respiratory system and so does Coronavirus. It is wise to reduce smoking during this period.

Proper stress management

It is a fast world now. Everything happens so fast and the things that stress us keep growing every other day. Your boss is asking for results, your children need school fees, your taxes need filing and your neighbours have confirmed Coronavirus infections.

All lead to stress. It is your reaction to all that and the way you handle it that will boost your immune system.

Take a break where possible, ask for help, take a walk, run it off, watch comedy and avoid anything else that brings stress. Your immune system will be boosted and be able to fight any ailments, including Coronavirus.

Wash your hands.

Okay, this does not directly boost your immune system but it is a basic practice that we can’t leave out because it is essential in the fight against Coronavirus. Please wash your hands with soap regularly after touching things like tables, door knobs, and other people’s hands (this should be avoided) among others.
