Speaker Kadaga suspends MP on suspicion of carrying Coronavirus, “Please go and self-quarantine”

Anthony Akol, Kilak North Constituency Member of Parliament.

With the world on high alert over Coronavirus, Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has suspended Hon. Anthony Akol, the Member of Parliament for Kilak North Constituency on suspicion of carrying the deadly Coronavirus.

Kadaga this afternoon asked Akol to leave the Chambers after the legislator admitted to have travelled to South Korea and later to South Africa and on return he did not undergo any health screening.

“You admitted to the Hansard that you travelled to these places. Please go and self-quarantine,” Kadaga said.

On hearing Akol’s revelations, the State Minister for Ministry of Health, Robinah Nabbanja urged all persons coming into the country to allow to be screened on arrival at Entebbe International Airport.

Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng yesterday announced a restriction to Ugandans from traveling to countries that have registered high cases of Coronavirus. The Minister said such countries pose a high threat of exposing COVID-19.

Aceng further said that travelers from the high-risk countries will have to self-quarantine themselves at their own expense, if not, they will be asked to leave the country.
