Museveni wanted to bundle me with Kayihura and throw us in one pool, fortunately, Ugandans distinguish things – Gen Tumukunde

In 2018, President Museveni made a reshuffle that saw the then Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Kale Kayihura and then Security Minister Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde lose their jobs.

Kayihura was arrested and arraigned in the General Court Martial accused of failure to protect war materials and aiding the kidnap and illegal repatriation of Rwandan nationals. Tumukunde on the other side just went home and rested, until recently when he declared his intentions to stand for the Presidency in the 20201 General Elections.

Tumukunde has been active ever since, talking about his plans for the future, and his past when he was working for President Museveni.

While speaking of his past, the General, now retired, was not shy to reveal his disagreements with President Museveni, the first being when he declined to support the removal of the Presidential terms in 2003. He was the Director of Internal Security Organisation (ISO) then.

Tumukunde also revealed that at one point, President Museveni wanted to have him in the same scenario as Kayihura, but fortunately for him, he said Ugandans can distinguish things.

“He (Museveni) even wanted to bundle me with Kayihura and throw us in one pool, fortunately, Ugandans distinguish things. We all have our cases; I have mine, Kayihura has his, and we are judged differently,” Tumukunde said.

Tumukunde now seeks to unseat Museveni come 2021.
