I did not win the KCCA Speaker election but I won in another way because I gave ‘the best speech’ – Muhammad Ssegirinya

Kawempe North Councilor Muhammad Ssegirinya.

Whereas most of you may now see Kawempe North Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Councilor Muhammad Ssegirinya as a loser after getting only one vote in the KCCA Speaker election that was conducted earlier today, he does not see himself as such.

The fact that Ssegirinya came last in the race does not stop him from calling himself a winner, because according to him, he gave what he feels was ‘the best speech’ at City Hall as compared to what his opponents gave.

“I did not win the election but I am still a winner. I will go down in the history books of KCCA because I gave the best speech at City Hall. Everyone was laughing at my speech, something that did not happen when my opponents were giving theirs,” Ssegirinya said.

Ssegirinya probably did not know that giving the best speech does not guarantee winning the election, because he came in last after Abubaker Kawalya won the Speaker position with 17 votes, followed by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC’s) Nyanjura Doreen with 14 votes.

Ssegirinya’s comments teach us to see the best in every situation.
