Are you one of those who has once found it hard to replace your lost National Identity Card (ID)? You now have a reason to sigh in relief as Members of Parliament have asked that National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) should scrap the Shs50,000 charged on Ugandans who want to replace their lost IDs.

Bunyole West County MP Hon. James Waluswaka brought up the proposal urging that most Ugandans cannot afford the charge. Kampala Central MP Hon. Muhammad Nsereko defended Waluswaka’s proposal saying that government allocates money for such work to be done.

Speaker Rebecca Kadaga questioned why it has become very difficult for Ugandans to acquire and replace National Identity Cards. Kadaga said she has learnt that the process can take even about four years.
