Deputy Speaker Oulanyah calls for protection of Ugandan wildlife, for it is “one of the best in the world”

This morning, hundreds of people turned up for the 42Km marathon organised by the Ugandan Wildlife Authority to commemorate the United Nations Wildlife Day, with proceeds from the marathon set to go towards educating children of fallen rangers.

Before flagging off the marathon runners this morning at the Uganda Museum, Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah highlighted the need for each one of us to contribute greatly to the protection of the Ugandan Wildlife.

“Flagged off the Uganda Wildlife Authority marathon that marks the commemoration of the United Nations World Wildlife Day. Our flora and fauna is one of the best in the world and we should do whatever it takes to protect it,” Oulanyah said.

The Deputy Speaker added that Parliament will continue to strengthen policies and provide any other necessary support towards efforts that uplift conservation of the wildlife.

Uganda boosts of one of the most diverse wildlife in the world ranging from different plant species to thousands of bird species and animals that attract tourists from the world over.

Last month, the New York Times listed Uganda in the Top 30 must-visit destinations of 2020.
