Make Valentine’s a celebratory day for surviving your ex; here are the other ways of how singles can enjoy the day

It is that time of year again where those who believe in love are going to try and surprise their loved ones. With the myth being that Valentine is for romantic relationships, singles tend to feel left out.

However, just because you are single doesn’t mean you have to feel left out of the festivities. You can easily make the day special for yourself. There are some unique ways you can celebrate and make the most out of Valentine’s Day.

Do a Secret Santa-like Valentine exchange with your other single friends

This is the easiest way of not feeling left out on this day. Do a roll call of all your single friends, put everyone’s name into a draw and each picks who to gift. See? Everyone gets a gift. Whether you’re in love or not. If you don’t have a friend who is single then we are sorry.

Grab a friend and fake your way through couple’s deals

Since almost every hangout spot is advertising couple offers, look through your ‘friendzoned’ list, pick that one friend and go for a night out at your favorite hangout spot. Love isn’t only about the romantic kind, but non-romantic loves too.

But please put in mind that people picked out of the friendzone have a way of feeling they have finally broken through and will want to take things to the next level, so if things get weird please we are not accountable.

Reward yourself anything you have been yearning for

For drinkers, buy your favourite wine or whisky, for the foodies treat yourself to a special meal and keep it all to yourself. Enjoy the fact that it is all for you. Don’t wait for someone else to give you something which you want or deserve. This is a day of love, love your single self.

Change your perception of Valentine’s Day in your mind.

Yes, you are single, but just because you are not in a relationship now doesn’t mean it will be that way in the future or that is necessarily a bad thing. Being single is a celebratory moment because you have no one to bother you with questions like “Why did you like Becky’s photo on Instagram?”

Make Valentine’s Day a celebratory day for surviving your ex

Valentine’s Day can also be a day for self-reflection of how past love has made you a better person.

Please toast to the courage that you managed to leave an unhealthy relationship. You can also tell yourself how you will never settle for a wrong person.

As Matooke Republic we wish you the best of Valentine’s Day, in your singleness.
