Former Flying Squad Commander ACP Herbert Muhangi has been granted bail for the second time by the General Court martial. Muhangi who is facing charges of failure to protect war materials and aiding and abetting kidnaps in Uganda was first granted non-cash bail of Shs10 million on February 19, 2019, on health grounds but he was rearrested immediately by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).

Court Martial Chairperson Lt Gen Andrew Gutti gave Muhangi strict conditions while reinstating his bail. Muhangi is not supposed to move beyond Kampala and Wakiso districts without permission from court. He will also have to report before the Court Martial twice a month.

Unlike last year where Muhangi did not make it out of the court premises after securing bail, today, together with his lawyers, he managed to drive out of the premises.

ACP Muhangi was arrested in 2018 and jointly charged with the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Gen Kale Kayihura, UPDF Officer Col Atwooki Ndahura, and six senior Police officers who include Nixon Agasiirwe, Richard Ndaboine, Patrick Muramira, Jonas Ayebaza and Kitagenda Abel Muyomba.
