It was no ordinary concert for city party animals that turned up for December’s 24th edition of Blankets and Wine. It certainly couldn’t have been with the music festival headlined by American rapper, singer and songwriter Jidenna in Lugogo on Sunday.
The shift in venue from Lugogo Cricket Oval to the Indian Association Grounds did not sway fans away from the Tusker Malt-sponsored event. Instead, multitudes thronged the venue in high spirits, armed with their blankets, wine and of course clad in bold stylish outfits, with fans eager for the evening’s performances.
Before the headlining act performed, artists like Evon, Shawn Maine, Apio Moro, Koojo and Allan Toniks kept the crowds entertained for the better part of the jam-packed Sunday Afro-music extravaganza performing songs infused with both Afro-soul and contemporary urban music, not forgetting the DJs that kept revellers animated as the evening crept in.
The fine-looking bearded stud would jump onto the stage a little after 10pm and wasted no time getting fans into the groove as he pulled off an energetic performance with the highlight of the night being his earlier smash hits like “Classic Man”, “Boomerang”, “Little Bit More”, and “Bambi” that set the place ablaze as many echoed the lyrics in a lively sing-song.
“Jidenna is truly a music genius, one with unique sound and style who weaves his African roots into everything he does. Tonight’s acts kept it 100% real and we are more than delighted to have such an exciting line-up at our Afro-fusion music stage for this edition of Blankets and Wine,” said Cathy Twesigye, Tusker Malt Brand Manager.
