The arts; music, paintings, film, poetry, books is a great way to promote and preserve a country’s cultures and traditions. In Uganda, most of this has been left to the talented individuals, who invest in their talents to come up with different arts, and sometimes it weighs up on them.

The government has come out to support musicians who are, safe to say, the most prominent group of arts performers in Uganda with money to the tune of Shs18 billion.

According to State Minister for Gender Peace Mutuzo said that the money is intended to help musicians get professional training in writing and composing songs, poems, videos and other forms of work that will promote Uganda’s cultures, as well as using a sum of it to enforce the copyright law that will protect their work.

“We know that this is peanuts but we want to begin from there. We want the artistes to come together so they can benefit from the money,” Mutuzo said.

Mutuzo said that they have finalised the first stage of the strategic plan and forwarded it to the ministry of Finance to review its financial implication.

Daniel Kazibwe alias Ragga Dee welcomed the plan from government and called for unity among the different groups of musicians in order to fully benefit from this money.
