Today, the Electoral Commission (EC) held a press conference at their headquarters in Kampala to officially kickoff the general update of the National Voter’s Register that is planned to go on until Wednesday, December 11, 2019.
During this exercise, eligible Ugandan citizens aged 18 years and above that are not yet registered to vote will be able to register after presentation of their National Identification Number (NIN), photograph, signature and fingerprints at the registration centre.
Those who are already registered are not required to register again, but can go to the stationed registration centres and check the displayed register to confirm whether their particulars are captured correctly and ask to make corrections where need be.
For those that might have moved away from their polling stations where they cast their votes in 2016 and would like to transfer to their new areas of residence, they are encouraged to put in their transfer request, with presentation of proof that they are residents of the areas they want to transfer to.
Additionally, learners who were registered under the Learner’s Project in 2017 and have since attained the age of 18 are encouraged to go to the registration centres, not to register again, but to specify their preferred polling stations and they will be allocated there.
As earlier mentioned, this exercise has kicked off today countrywide and will run all the way to December 11, after which no new voters will be registered or transferred.
